West Carroll Primary students in Ms. Misty Evan's class watch fun math videos during math graphing unit

Ms. Misty Evan’s first-grade class engaged in an enjoyable and educational exploration of graphing and data interpretation. The students were captivated by the humorous tale of “Tall O Malley and Amazing Charts,” and they actively participated in gathering data on the various shapes of objects around the classroom. They also enjoyed singing and dancing to NumberRock’s graphing song, among other interactive learning activities. Throughout the week, the students developed their skills in interpreting and documenting different types of data, including counting tally marks and reading number, picture, and bar graphs. A hands-on activity involved graphing the colors of M&Ms from their individual bags, which enhanced their understanding and catered to diverse learning styles. Ms. Misty's strategic use of hands-on activities, like the colorful M&M graphing project, not only made learning fun but also catered to each student's unique learning style.  At the conclusion of the unit, the students were assessed on these skills during the year-end I-Ready testing. Overall, Ms. Misty effectively taught these mathematical concepts, leaving a lasting impression on her students.
