Talk about readers on a mission 📚✨

Mrs. Nikki Gilley’s 4th grade homeroom showed up for their reading goals, squeezing in AR books during class and in every spare moment (even while waiting in line!). Their hard work paid off as students who hit 50 books or 50 points earned the honor of riding on WCES floats in the Town of Trezevant Christmas Parade 🎄🚗

Huge shoutout to Principal Dr. Jessica Williams, Librarian Mrs. Pat Hudgins, and the entire WCES team for creating a school culture where reading is celebrated, rewarded, and fun.

Overflowing with creativity! Two WC seniors, Chloe Pinson and Elizabeth Hritz, are starting a new West Carroll tradition as the first students to paint ceiling tiles for Ms. Cailynn Smith’s art class. We love seeing students leave their mark through creativity and tradition.🎨

20+ Employee Highlight: Jeanne Hooper, 21 Years of Service
"Ms. Jeanne Hooper wears many hats and handles each role with grace and dedication." - Jackie Wester, Principal of West Carroll Primary

For 21 years, Ms. Jeanne has been a vital part of West Carroll Primary. She started in 2004 in the copy room and now manages the computer lab, supports teachers in classrooms, and even organizes the yearbook and picture days!

She originally joined the district to be more involved with her daughter’s activities. Now, years later, her granddaughter is a junior in our high school! When Ms. Jeanne Hooper looks back on her 21 years at West Carroll Primary, she sees more than just a job.

"The teachers and staff I have worked with through the years are like having a second family," she shares. She recalls how supportive the West Carroll team was during her husband’s illness, proving that our community truly cares for one another.

Ms. Jeanne hopes to be remembered as a caring and dedicated co-worker. Her advice to those starting in education is a reminder we all need: "Balance out the work and discipline with big doses of love and praise."

Thank you, Ms. Jeanne, for always stepping in wherever you are needed and always with a cheerful heart.🤍

Managing Millions with Precision (and a sense of fun!) 💼

Overseeing a $13 million district budget requires incredible attention to detail, integrity, and professionalism. Fortunately, West Carroll has Ms. Shan DePriest.

Ms. Shan is currently in her 27th school year with the district, having started in 1999. She spent her first two years at the Jr/Sr High before moving to the Central Office, where she has served for the last 25 years.

While she is known for her financial expertise, her coworkers know another side of her: Shan is always the "Life of the Party"!

Ms. Shan says she loves her Central Office team, and we certainly love her. Her advice to those just starting out is a reminder to cherish every moment: "Take in all you can. Time flies and it will be over before you know it".

Thank you for keeping our district financially compliant and our office spirits high.

Big night on the court against Greenfield last night for our War Eagles. Both teams competed hard, and it was especially exciting to see the boys break a long losing streak with a well-earned win. Wins like that make the hard work worth it and give our program great momentum moving forward.🏀

Also, big shoutout to our Student Media Team photographer, Taytum Jenkins, for capturing the action and energy from the games! 📸

Proud of our players, coaches, and students for representing West Carroll so well.

Students love lesson that feels like a game 🎮🐾

In Ms. Emily’s 5th grade classroom, students designed creatures to survive changing environments, predators, harsh winters, limited food, and more. Using a points-based strategy system, students had to think critically, revise their designs, and adapt each round (just like animals in the real world!).

The verdict from students? A little nerve-wracking, very strategic… and a whole lot of fun.

Hot Dog Bar Day at WCJSHS! 🌭

Today’s high school lunch hit the spot with a fully loaded hot dog bar, complete with all the toppings and a pot of chili that definitely helped warm us up on this chilly day.

Students had a great time putting together their own combos, and we saw some pretty creative topping pairings make an appearance. Shoutout to our cafeteria team for another fun and delicious lunch!

20+ Employee Highlight: Sharlanda Emerson, 25+ Years of Service
"West Carroll County has always been my home and always will be."

Ms. Sharlanda Emerson’s connection to West Carroll started when she was a student walking these same halls. Today, we celebrate her for 25 years of service to our district!

Ms. Sharlanda began subbing in 2000 and has served as a Preschool Assistant since 2005. She says the most rewarding part of her job is the "full circle" moments—she has been here long enough that she is now teaching the children of her former students.

She strikes a perfect balance in the classroom: setting clear expectations to help students focus, while ensuring every child feels supported and understood.

Thank you, Ms. Sharlanda, for giving back to our community and making such a difference in so many lives.
