Math practice was in motion at West Carroll Elementary!

Our WCES students recently prepared for TCAP with a multiplication frisbee game that combined fact fluency, teamwork, and movement. As students tossed frisbees, solved multiplication problems, and recorded their answers, they practiced key math skills in a fun, low-pressure way.

The activity kept students active and engaged. Students were also encouraging one another while building confidence before testing.

Way to go!

We’re officially halfway through state testing, and we’re proud of the focus and effort our students have shown each day. Keep pushing, stay confident, and finish strong. Students, your teachers and administrators stand behind you as you take on these tests! We believe in you, War Eagles!

🦅🏅Our WCES SOAR Students for 4/23/2026 are Zaila Adkisson, Ellie Everett, and Evelyn O'Bryant.
Our SOAR Awards program recognizes students based on our school's core values of Safety, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect. The program celebrates those who demonstrate academic effort, positive character, and meaningful contributions to the school community.

Zaila Adkisson, third grader at WCES, was awarded for having the most dojo points. Her teacher, Mrs. Lindsey Lindsay, stated that “Zaila demonstrates a strong commitment to learning in all of her classes. She always completes tasks to the best of her ability, and her effort, determination and positive work habits have helped her to stand out.”

Ellie Everett also received the most dojo points in a week at WCES. Ellie’s fourth grade teacher, Ms. Madison McClure, said that “Ellie comes to class ready to learn with a positive attitude. She is always willing to help and takes on a leadership role amongst her peers. She works hard and perseveres when faced with challenges.”

Evelyn O’Bryant was nominated for the SOAR award by teachers and staff. Sixth grade teacher, Ms. Shanna Pafford stated that, “Evelyn is a bright and outgoing student who brings positive energy into the classroom each day. She approaches her work with determination and always gives her best effort, making her a truly hardworking and admirable learner.”

West Carroll Elementary is proud of these students for exemplifying the values that make the school community thrive.

Insect Centers Buzz with Learning in 2nd Grade Science

Second grade students recently explored the fascinating world of insects through hands-on science centers. Each station offered a new way to investigate insect life and characteristics. Students used microscopes and prepared slides to closely examine tiny insect features, while magnifying glasses helped them observe details that are often missed with the naked eye.

Other centers focused on learning about insect life cycles, where students studied informational text, labeled pictures, and diagrams to better understand each stage of development. The young scientists eagerly compared insects, recorded observations, and shared discoveries with classmates.

"These engaging insect centers created a buzz of excitement in the classroom while strengthening science skills and encouraging curiosity about the natural world," stated Mrs. Brittany Watson.

To prep for their upcoming End of Course Exam, our Biology students took review outside the classroom with a scavenger hunt around the school to study energy flow in the human body. From the cafeteria for carbohydrates to the alt. gym to use some energy, each stop helped connect concepts in a hands-on, memorable way. Review looks a little different when you’re up, moving, and making connections. Good luck to all our students on their upcoming EOCs!

West Carroll Primary recently welcomed families for Pre-K and Kindergarten registration for the upcoming school year. Families had the opportunity to meet staff, submit enrollment documents, and learn more about the hands-on learning experiences that help our youngest students grow.

We look forward to welcoming these new students to WCP this fall.
