Spring learning is blooming all across WCP. 🌸🦋🌱

Our kindergarten students have been learning about flowers, pollination, and the butterfly life cycle through hands-on lessons and real-life observation. Mrs. Glinda Wilson’s class watched in wonder as caterpillars changed and grew, and today, Mrs. Sherry Haywood’s students had the exciting opportunity to release their butterflies and watch them spread their wings and fly away.

In second grade, the spring theme continues with descriptive writing about butterfly development in Mrs. Krystal McCall’s class and spring-inspired place value lessons in Mrs. Rachel Baker’s classroom.

We love seeing learning come to life in such meaningful ways at WCP.

Students “Crack” Into TCAP Prep with Egg-citing Math Activity

On April 6, students in Mrs. Beth Hysmith’s class experienced a creative and engaging way to prepare for the upcoming TCAP assessment. The classroom was filled with excitement as students participated in the class’s math-themed egg hunt.

During the activity, students searched for Easter eggs hidden throughout the room, each containing a math problem. The questions were taken from the recent Math CASE assessment and covered a variety of fourth-grade math standards, giving students a comprehensive review in a fun and interactive format.

Working in pairs, students collaborated to break down each problem, eliminate incorrect answer choices, and strengthen their understanding of key concepts. The activity also provided valuable practice in transferring answers onto an answer document, mirroring the format they will encounter on the TCAP test.

Once all problems were solved, the competition heated up as students raced to collect the most eggs. The combination of teamwork, problem-solving, and friendly competition made the review both effective and enjoyable.

Mrs. Hysmith’s innovative approach turned test preparation into an “egg-citing” learning experience, helping students build confidence and skills ahead of TCAP.

Thanks to the ISM (Innovative School Model) Grant, our Business program and West Carroll Apparel now have a new Brother 10-needle embroidery machine to expand what students can create and sell. This machine gives students the chance to learn new technology, grow their skills, and take our school-based enterprise to the next level with more customized products and designs. It’s another step toward giving students real, hands-on experience that connects directly to business and industry. 🧵👕

Thank you to our CTE director, Mrs. Kristin Lindsey; our business teacher, Mrs. Erin Lewis; and Sew Carefree of Jackson for helping to make this possible for our students! We’re excited to see what they create next.

West Carroll students from both our primary school and junior/senior high recently participated in a Special Olympics event at Huntingdon High School, alongside several area schools.
The day began with a special send-off at the primary school, where classmates lined the halls and outside to cheer on and support our students as they headed out for the event.

Students took part in a variety of activities including the softball throw, 40-meter dash, limbo, jump the brook, and the parachute, enjoying a day filled with movement, teamwork, and fun. West Carroll staff members accompanied students throughout the day, and the group also shared lunch together and spent time at the Carroll County Inclusion Park.

We’re thankful for this annual event that brings students together and creates meaningful experiences for all. A special thank you to our student media interns for joining in and capturing these moments to share with our community.
